Hide other shipping rates when free shipping is available

When an order qualifies for free shipping, many stores don't want customers to also see paid rates next to it. Shopify shows every eligible rate by default. ShipWith's Show only free methods (when available) action hides the paid rates whenever a free one is offered, and leaves checkout unchanged when nothing is free.

ShipWith doesn't create free shipping. Set up your free rate in Shopify first, for example a free rate with a minimum order price in your shipping profile.

Start from a ready-made rule

Download hide-other-rates-when-free-shipping.json and import it from the ShipWith Dashboard with Import. The rule uses Standard input, runs Always, and applies Show only free methods (when available). It imports as Off.

After importing, set Status to Live, select Save, and wait for Synced. See Export and import shipping rules for details. To build the rule yourself instead, follow the steps below.

Create the rule

  1. Create a shipping rule and enter a Rule name, such as Hide paid rates when free shipping is available.
  2. Keep Standard input for Function input.
  3. Under When the rule runs, select Always. Add conditions only if the rule should apply to some checkouts and not others.
  4. Under Actions, select Show only free methods (when available).
  5. Set Status to Live, select Save, and wait for Shopify sync to show Synced.

How ShipWith decides a rate is free

  • A rate counts as free when its own price is 0. A free-shipping discount code doesn't make a paid rate count as free.
  • Free local pickup and free pickup points count as free too. If you offer them, the rule hides paid shipping whenever they're available. Add conditions, or use a different rule for pickup, if that isn't what you want.
  • Shopify can split a cart into multiple delivery groups. Each group is checked separately, and every free rate in a group stays visible.

Test the rule at checkout

  1. Build a cart below your free shipping threshold. Confirm that all paid rates are shown.
  2. Add items until the order qualifies for free shipping. Confirm that only the free rate or rates remain.
  3. If you offer free local pickup, check a cart where pickup is available and confirm the result is what you expect.
