Match shipping methods by name or handle

ShipWith actions can match a Shopify shipping method handle or name for delivery methods already available at checkout. The normal rule editor does not show a separate shipping-method matcher card. Instead, enter targets in the fields shown by the action that you select.

Choose the action target

Actions that can affect several methods show Delivery method titles. Enter a value and press Enter to add it. Add more values when the same action should target more methods. This field appears for actions such as hiding specific methods, showing only specific methods, moving methods to the top or bottom, and renaming methods.

Reorder a specific delivery method shows Delivery method name or handle instead. Enter the value for the method that you want to move, then set its Position.

Some actions, such as hiding all methods or sorting methods by cost, do not need a name or handle target.

How targets match

ShipWith compares each entered value with both the delivery method title and handle:

  • Matching is case-insensitive. EXPRESS matches Express Shipping.
  • Matching uses any part of the title or handle. express matches the title Express Shipping and the handle carrier-express-rate.
  • Multiple values use OR matching. If you enter express and pickup, a method matches when either value appears in its title or handle.
  • ShipWith trims spaces from the start and end of each entered value and ignores blank values.

Use the narrowest useful value. A broad target such as standard can match several methods, including Standard Shipping, Standard International, and a method whose handle is carrier-standard-rate. A target can also collide with text in a title and a different method's handle. When an action allows multiple matches, every matching method can be affected.

For example:

| Entered value | Delivery method title | Delivery method handle | Matches? | | ------------- | --------------------- | ---------------------- | -------- | | express | Express Shipping | rate-123 | Yes | | pickup | Collect in store | local-pickup | Yes | | air | Standard Shipping | ground-rate | No |

Available shipping method title conditions

An available-shipping-method condition is separate from an action's target. Under Conditions, the Shipping method field filters available methods by title only, using the operator and value that you choose. It does not compare the condition value with the method handle.

Conditions decide which available methods are eligible for the rule. The action then applies its own Delivery method titles or Delivery method name or handle target to those eligible methods. A method must pass the conditions and match the action target before a targeted action can change it.

See Choose when a shipping rule applies: conditions and groups for more on how shipping-method conditions filter actions.

Test the match at checkout

  1. Set the rule to Live, select Save, and wait for Shopify sync to show Synced.
  2. Create a checkout that makes the intended delivery methods available and meets the rule's conditions.
  3. Check which methods the action changes and confirm that similarly named methods were not matched by accident.
  4. Repeat with a checkout that should not match.
  5. If Shopify splits the cart into multiple delivery groups, check every group. ShipWith evaluates each group against its own available methods.

If the result is unexpected, make the target more specific and check the method's Shopify title and handle. Also review any Shipping method condition separately because it checks the title, not the handle. ShipWith cannot target a method that Shopify or a shipping-rate provider did not supply for that delivery group.
