Use shipping address conditions for Shopify address validation at checkout. You can show an error when a customer's country, province, city, ZIP or postal code, or first address line matches a checkout rule.
Which address fields can you check?
| Condition | What to enter | Available with |
| ----------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| Shipping country | Countries picked from a list, or a country code such as US. | Standard input, Customer input |
| Province code | A state or province code, rather than its full name. | Standard input, Customer input |
| Shipping city | A city name. | Customer input |
| Zip code | A ZIP or postal code from the shipping address. | Standard input, Attribute input, Customer input |
| Shipping address (line 1) | Text from the first street address line. | Standard input, Attribute input, Customer input |
These are the labels in the Shipping address condition group. Shipping input does not offer these five fields; choose it when your rule needs the selected Shipping method. Choose your Rule input before creating the rule, because it is locked afterward.

How does matching work?
Each field supports is, is not, contains, does not contain, and starts with. Shipping country also supports is one of and is not one of, and new Shipping country conditions start with is one of. Select Select countries, use Search countries to find a country, check each one you want, then select Confirm. Selected countries show under the condition; remove one to drop it from the list. Text comparisons ignore letter case and spaces at the start or end. For example, Shipping country → is → US checks the shipping address's country code. Shipping address (line 1) → contains can check for text within a street address.
Zip code also supports is one of and contains one of for lists. For Shopify ZIP code validation with several codes or a wildcard, see Use ZIP code lists and wildcards.
An address condition does not match when the shipping address or the checked field is missing, even with is not, does not contain, or is not one of. If an order has more than one shipping address, the condition matches when any one of them matches.
For a complete rule that stops orders to an area you cannot serve, see Block orders to specific ZIP codes or countries.
