Choose a Rule input based on the information your checkout rule needs to check. The choice determines which conditions you can add to the rule.

Compare the four inputs

| Rule input | Choose it when you need to check | | ------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | | Standard input | Common cart amounts and quantities, currency, products or product tags, customer details and tags, discounts, and shipping address details such as country and ZIP code. | | Shipping input | The selected Shipping method. It also offers common cart, customer, and discount conditions, plus the shipping phone number. | | Attribute input | Cart attribute values, line item attributes, selling plans, or cart contents by SKU or variant title. It also offers cart amounts, customer tags, discounts, and selected shipping address fields. | | Customer input | Customer order count, total spent, email, tags, login status, or company details. It also offers cart amounts, discounts, and shipping address details including city and name. |

All four inputs can check Cart subtotal, Customer tag, and Order discount. See Which conditions work with which rule type for the full list.

If you are unsure, start with Standard input. It covers the most common rules.

Pick by goal

| Your goal | Rule input | Guide | | ------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------- | | Set a minimum order value | Standard input | Set a minimum order value | | Block orders to specific ZIP codes or countries | Standard input | Block orders to specific ZIP codes or countries | | Restrict checkout by the selected shipping method | Shipping input | Shipping method conditions | | Check a delivery date or gift note stored as a cart attribute | Attribute input | Cart attributes and line item attributes | | Block a collection from shipping to a ZIP code | Attribute input | Restrict products or collections by location | | Set a rule for first-time customers using their order count | Customer input | Customer conditions: tags, login, orders, total spent, email | | Apply a minimum order to B2B company buyers | Standard input or Customer input | Require B2B buyers to meet order rules |

Attribute input can check both collections and ZIP codes. Standard input and Customer input can both check Customer is a company and Cart subtotal.

Check the Cart contains choices

The Cart contains condition offers different ways to match cart items for each input:

| Rule input | What Cart contains can match | | ------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------- | | Standard input | Products and product tags | | Shipping input | Products, product tags, and collections | | Attribute input | Products, product tags, collections, SKUs, and variant titles | | Customer input | Products only |

Choose before you build conditions

Standard input is selected when you start a new checkout rule. Select a different Rule input before adding conditions if your rule needs one of the checks above.

Changing Rule input while creating the rule clears all current conditions, including any you have entered. If you edited the conditions, BlockCart asks you to confirm the change. Once you create the rule, Rule input is locked. To use a different input later, create a new rule with that input.

For the rest of the setup, see Create your first checkout rule.
