Use a Shipping method condition to restrict Shopify shipping by the method a customer selects. The condition checks the method's name in Shopify checkout. If your rule matches, you can stop the order and show the customer an error message.
Which rule input supports it?
Choose Shipping input under Rule input when you create the checkout rule. Shipping method appears in the Shipping condition group only for this input. The other inputs cannot check the selected method. Rule input is locked after you create the rule, so choose it before saving.

How does the name match?
Enter the shipping method title in Value. You can use these Operator choices:
| Operator | When the condition matches | | -------------------- | ------------------------------------- | | is | The whole title matches. | | is not | The whole title differs. | | contains | The title includes your text. | | does not contain | The title does not include your text. | | starts with | The title begins with your text. |
Matching ignores letter case and spaces at the start or end. For example, Shipping method → is → Express Shipping matches a selected method named “Express Shipping.” To block that choice, use this condition with an error message that tells the customer to choose another method. You can combine it with other conditions to limit when the rule applies. See Combine conditions with AND and OR groups.
Good to know
- The condition checks the selected method. If no shipping method is selected yet, it does not match, including with is not or does not contain.
- Customers pick a shipping method inside Shopify checkout, so this condition can't match at Interacting with the cart. Keep Interacting with the checkout or Completing the checkout selected. See Choose when a rule runs: checkout, cart interaction, add to cart.
- If an order has multiple delivery groups, the condition matches when any selected method matches.
- A checkout rule stops the matching order; it does not remove a shipping method from the list of available choices. Tell the customer which other method to choose in your Error message.
