NEWDiscoverShipGoal– turn cart progress into bigger baskets

You can set a Shopify minimum order value with a checkout rule. When a cart subtotal is below your threshold, Shopify checkout stops the order and shows your message.

Before you start

You need an active BlockCart subscription to save the rule. Choose a Shopify minimum order amount for each checkout currency you accept. The example below uses 50 for a $50 minimum.

Set the minimum

  1. On the BlockCart home page, select Create new rule. In the dialog, choose Cart and checkout validation.
  2. Give the rule a name, such as “$50 minimum order.” Leave Rule input as Standard input.
  3. Under Eligibility, choose Only when conditions match.
  4. In Conditions, select Cart subtotal, set the operator to is less than, and enter 50 as the value.
  5. Under Display, write an Error message that tells customers what to do. For example: “Add more items to reach the $50 minimum order subtotal.” Leave Target placement at Top of checkout if you want the message there.
  6. Set Status to Live, then Save. Check the saved rule's Shopify sync status and try a checkout with a subtotal below your minimum.

Example

| Rule input | Conditions | Error message | | -------------- | ----------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------- | | Standard input | Cart subtotal is less than 50 | Add more items to reach the $50 minimum order subtotal. |

Good to know

  • Cart subtotal is before taxes and order-level discounts. Use it when your minimum should be based on merchandise value. Cart total is what the customer pays and can include taxes and shipping. See Cart conditions: subtotal, total, quantity, currency for the difference.
  • The amount is compared with the number in the customer's checkout currency. BlockCart does not convert currencies. If you sell in more than one currency, use a separate condition group for each currency, pairing Cart currency with that currency's minimum. See Cart conditions: subtotal, total, quantity, currency.
  • The error message is fixed text. It does not calculate or display how much more a customer needs to add. If you use several currencies, avoid a currency-specific amount in the message unless your rules and messages account for it.
  • Rule input is locked after you create the rule. The default trigger steps cover interactions with Shopify checkout and checkout completion. Select Interacting with the cart if you also want the rule checked during cart interactions.
