Create your first shipping rule
Use ShipWith to create Shopify shipping rules that control how existing delivery options appear at checkout. A rule can hide, show, rename, move, reorder, or sort those options. It does not create shipping rates, change their prices, or offer shipping discounts.
Before you start
Decide which checkout information your rule needs. You select a Function input when you create the rule, and you cannot change it after the rule is created.
Read Choose the right Function input type for your rule before making this locked choice.
New rules start as Off. An inactive rule can be saved, but it does not change checkout.
Create the rule
- Open
/app/rules/newin the embedded ShipWith app. - In Rule name, replace New shipping rule with a name that describes what the rule does.
- In Function input, select the input that provides the checkout fields your conditions need. Check the description shown for each option before you choose it.
- Under When the rule runs, choose one option:
- Always applies the actions whenever Shopify evaluates the rule.
- When set conditions are met shows the Conditions section. Add the conditions that must match before the actions run. Conditions gate the rule: if they do not match, the rule does not change any delivery options. See Choose when a shipping rule applies: conditions and groups for help combining conditions.
- Under Actions, open Select action and choose what the rule should do. Complete every field shown for that action. Depending on the action, these fields can include Delivery method titles, Delivery method type, Delivery method name or handle, Position, or New title.
- Optional: select Add new action to add another action. Actions run in the order shown.
- Leave Status set to Off while you review the rule. When it is ready to affect checkout, change Status to Live.
- Select Save.
ShipWith cannot save the rule until you choose an action and complete all required fields for every action. If the rule is active, saving syncs it to Shopify with other active rules that use the same Function input. Inactive rules do not sync as checkout behavior and do not change checkout.
Test the rule at checkout
- Add products to the cart that should match the rule.
- Go to checkout and enter any customer or destination details needed by the rule's conditions.
- Confirm that the existing delivery options are hidden, shown, renamed, moved, reordered, or sorted as configured.
- Repeat the test with details that should not match and confirm that the rule does not change the delivery options.
Shopify can split one cart into multiple delivery groups. Each delivery group is evaluated on its own and has its own delivery options. If your test checkout has more than one delivery group, check the result in each group rather than expecting one group's result to apply to all of them.
