If a condition is missing while you edit a rule, check its Rule input. This checklist will help you find an input that offers the condition and replace the rule.

Check the Rule input

  1. Open the rule and look at Rule input. Checkout rules use Standard input, Shipping input, Attribute input, or Customer input. Payment rules use Cart, Merchandise, or Buyer Delivery. Each choice gives the rule access to different conditions.
  2. Check which input supports the condition. For checkout rules, use Which conditions work with which rule type. For payment rules, use Profiles explained: Cart, Merchandise, Buyer and delivery. The same condition name can have different availability in checkout and payment rules.
  3. Create a new rule with the right Rule input. You cannot change Rule input after saving a rule. Add the conditions, action or error message, and status you want to the new rule, then save it. Once the new rule is working, set the old one to Off or delete it. Duplicate on a payment rule keeps its original Rule input, so it will not fix this problem.

Common checkout examples

| Condition you need | Choose this Rule input | | ---------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------- | | Products from selected collections | Shipping input or Attribute input | | Cart attribute | Attribute input | | Shipping method | Shipping input | | Customer number of orders | Customer input |

For collections, choose a collection option under Cart contains or Cart does not contain. Standard input does not offer those collection options, even though it offers other cart content checks.

If you change Rule input while creating a rule that already has conditions, the Change Rule input? dialog warns that confirming clears all current conditions. Add them again for the new input. For a checkout rule in Test or Live, saving an unavailable condition can show: “Condition X with operator Y is not available for this input type.” Here, X and Y are the condition and operator in your rule. Check the table above and create a replacement with a supported input.
