If customers see more than one error message in Shopify checkout, check which of your checkout rules in Test or Live match the same order. You can combine or adjust those rules so customers get clearer guidance.
Check your rules
- Look for rules that match the same order. Each checkout rule in Test or Live runs as its own Shopify validation. If two rules match, both can show an error. For example, an order below your minimum value might also match a rule that blocks a particular shipping country. The order of messages from different rules is not guaranteed.
- Combine rules that should give the same message. Put their conditions in separate groups within one rule. Groups work as OR: if any group matches, the rule shows its single Error message. You can have up to four groups in one rule. Use this when the same instruction makes sense for every group. See Combine conditions with AND and OR groups for the setup.
- Narrow conditions that overlap. If the messages describe different problems, keep the rules separate but make their conditions more specific where possible. For example, limit one rule to a particular customer group or country if that reflects your policy. Check the result with an order that previously matched both rules.
- Turn off duplicate rules. If two rules enforce the same requirement, open the rule you no longer need, set Status to Off, and save it. The rule stays in BlockCart, but it stops running in Shopify checkout.
- Check where each message appears. A rule's Target placement can be Top of checkout or a specific checkout field. When different rules target different fields, customers can see messages beside those separate fields rather than together. Make each Error message clear on its own and sensible alongside the others. See Write a clear error message for customers.

One rule still shows only one error when several of its OR groups match. If a customer sees several messages, check other rules that are on before changing the groups in that rule.
