You can use a Shopify hide payment method rule to remove a payment option when an order ships to a chosen country or uses a particular delivery method. For example, hide cash on delivery (COD) for orders shipping abroad or for local pickup.
Before you start
You need an active BlockCart subscription. Check the payment method's name in Shopify checkout, and make sure customers will have another way to pay when this rule matches.
Hide a method for a shipping country
- On the BlockCart home page, select Create new rule, then Payment customization in the dialog.
- Enter a Rule name. Set Rule input to Buyer Delivery. This gives you shipping and delivery conditions.
- Under Eligibility, select Only when conditions match. Under Conditions, choose Shipping country and is one of. Select the destination country under Select countries, then Confirm. To hide the method for every international order, choose is not one of and select your home country instead, such as United States.
- Under Actions, keep Hide. Set Match operator to Exact. In Payment method targets, remove the placeholder target, enter the COD method's original checkout name, and press Enter.
- Under Status, select Live, then Save. Check that the rule shows Synced on the home page. Test Shopify checkout with a matching destination and a different destination.

Hide a method for local pickup
Create another Buyer Delivery rule using the same steps, but choose Delivery method type is one of Local pickup under Conditions. Use Hide to target the COD method. If you need to match a named delivery option instead, choose Shipping method and is, then enter its title as shown in checkout.
Example
| Rule input | Conditions | Payment action | | -------------- | ------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------- | | Buyer Delivery | Shipping country is one of Canada | Hide “Cash on Delivery” with Exact match. | | Buyer Delivery | Delivery method type is one of Local pickup | Hide “Cash on Delivery” with Exact match. |
Good to know
- Shipping country uses the delivery address. Billing country uses the billing address. Storefront country uses the country selected for the storefront experience; it does not necessarily match either address.
- Billing country and Storefront country are available with Cart, while Shipping country, Shipping method, and Delivery method type are available with Buyer Delivery. Rule input is locked after creation, so use separate rules if you need conditions from both inputs.
- Delivery conditions default to Any one delivery group. If an order has more than one delivery group, a match in one group can hide the payment method for the checkout. Select Every delivery group if all groups must match.
- BlockCart matches the payment method's original name. It changes which Shopify checkout payment methods are shown; it does not add a method that Shopify has not made available.
