Use Priority to control the order of payment rules that share a Rule input. You can also see how their actions combine when more than one rule matches in Shopify checkout.

Set the rule order

Open a payment rule and find the Priority card. Enter a whole number of 0 or more in Priority, then save the rule. Lower numbers run first. If two rules have the same priority, the older rule runs first.

This order applies within one Rule input, such as Cart. BlockCart puts the rules in Test or Live for each Rule input together in priority order. In a matching rule, Action #1 runs before Action #2, and so on. The next matching rule starts with the payment methods as the earlier actions left them. A rule whose conditions do not match adds no actions.

Example: two matching rules

Suppose Shopify checkout initially offers Credit card, Cash on Delivery, and Bank transfer. Both of these Cart rules are Live and set to Always:

| Rule | Priority | Actions | | ------ | -------- | ----------------------------------------------------- | | Rule A | 1 | Hide Cash on Delivery | | Rule B | 2 | Reset Previous Rules, then Hide Bank transfer |

Rule A hides Cash on Delivery. Rule B then restores the original payment choices with Reset Previous Rules and hides Bank transfer. The final choices are Credit card and Cash on Delivery. If Rule B had only Hide Bank transfer, the two hide actions would stack and only Credit card would remain.

What does Reset Previous Rules reset?

Reset Previous Rules restores the original visibility, names, and order of payment methods. It clears earlier actions in its own rule and earlier matching rules within the same Rule input. Actions after the reset still run. It does not reset actions from a different Rule input.

Priority cannot set a reliable order between Cart, Merchandise, and Buyer Delivery. Shopify does not guarantee which Rule input runs first. If rules in different inputs affect the same payment methods, see Fix payment rule conflicts between profiles.
