You can use BlockCart to edit Shopify payment methods at checkout. These two recipes put a preferred method first and give another method a clearer label.

Before you start

You need an active BlockCart subscription to save payment rules. Check the method names in your Shopify checkout. The examples use Shopify manual payment methods, but you should enter the names your customers see.

Put a preferred method first

  1. On the BlockCart home page, select Create new rule, then choose Payment customization in the dialog.
  2. Enter a Rule name, such as “Bank transfer first.” Leave Rule input set to Cart and Eligibility set to Always.
  3. Under Actions, change Action 1 to Move To Top. Leave Match operator set to Exact. Remove the placeholder Payment method target. In Payment method targets, enter Bank transfer and press Enter.
  4. Under Status, select Live, then select Save. On the home page, check that the rule shows Live and Synced. Test an order in Shopify checkout where Bank transfer is available.

If you want several methods at the top in a specific sequence, choose Preferred Order instead. Add each method under Targets in preferred order in the order you want it shown.

Rename a method with a clearer label

  1. Create another Payment customization rule. Name it “Clarify cash on delivery,” and leave Rule input as Cart and Eligibility as Always.
  2. Under Actions, change Action 1 to Rename. Leave Match operator as Exact. Remove the placeholder target, then enter Cash on Delivery under Payment method targets and press Enter.
  3. Enter Pay on delivery under New name. Select Live under Status, then select Save.
  4. Check for Live and Synced on the home page. Test Shopify checkout where Cash on Delivery is available and check the label at the payment step.

Example

| Rule input | Conditions | Payment action | | ---------- | ---------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Cart | Always | Move To Top: “Bank transfer” using Exact match. | | Cart | Always | Rename: “Cash on Delivery” to “Pay on delivery” using Exact match. |

Good to know

  • Shopify may refuse to move or rename wallet and logo-based methods. BlockCart can save the rule even when Shopify leaves those methods unchanged. Test the result in checkout.
  • Later actions and rules still target the original method name. After renaming “Cash on Delivery,” target “Cash on Delivery” in another action, not “Pay on delivery.”
  • Rule input is locked after creation. For the full action reference, see Payment actions: hide, show only, reorder, rename, reset.
