Use Shopify selling plans in a checkout rule to check whether a cart contains a subscription item or a particular plan title. For Shopify subscriptions, you can then show an error when the customer's cart matches your condition.
Choose a selling plan condition
Both conditions are available with Attribute input. Choose it under Rule input before creating the rule.
| Condition | What it checks | Example |
| ---------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Selling plan order | Whether any cart line has a selling plan. | is true matches a cart with at least one subscription item. |
| Selling plan title | The name of a selling plan on any cart line. A line without a selling plan cannot match. | contains Weekly matches a plan named “Weekly delivery.” |

For Selling plan order, use is true to match carts with at least one selling plan. Use is not true to match carts with none. This checks the whole cart, including carts that mix subscription and one-time items.
For Selling plan title, enter the plan name or part of it. You can choose is, is not, contains, does not contain, or starts with. Comparisons ignore letter case and spaces at the start or end of the text.
Example: stop a particular subscription plan
To stop orders that include a plan named “Weekly delivery,” select Attribute input and Only when conditions match. Set Selling plan title to is Weekly delivery. Write an Error message that tells customers which plan to change. When the rule is Live and synced, a matching cart shows that message in Shopify checkout.
The title condition checks whether any cart line matches. For example, is not Weekly delivery can match a different selling plan in the same cart, even when another line uses “Weekly delivery.” Use Selling plan order when you only need to know whether the cart contains any selling plan.
Rule input is locked after you create the rule. For the full setup, see Create your first checkout rule.
