If your rule is not blocking checkout, work through these checks in order. Test again in Shopify checkout after each change.

Troubleshooting checklist

  1. Is the rule Live? Open the rule, set Status to Live, and Save. A rule that is Off does not run. A rule in Test runs only for signed-in customers tagged blockcart-test, so guests and other customers will not see it. See Create your first checkout rule.
  2. Is Shopify sync Synced? Check Shopify sync on the rule. If it shows Failed, read the error and select Retry sync. See Understand sync status and retry a failed sync.
  3. Do the conditions match the test order? Under Eligibility, check Always or Only when conditions match. Every condition in one group must match; any matching group is enough. See Always run a rule, or only when conditions match.
  4. Did you select the right step? Interacting with the cart needs a theme that displays Shopify cart errors. Keep Completing the checkout selected to stop the order in Shopify checkout. See Choose when a rule runs: checkout, cart interaction, add to cart.
  5. Is the data available yet? A missing shipping address or field does not match an address condition. Guest customers have no customer record for tag checks. A missing cart attribute does not match, even with is not. See Shipping address conditions: country, province, city, ZIP, address line, Customer conditions: tags, login, orders, total spent, email, and Cart attributes and line item attributes.
  6. Are you testing the amount in the checkout currency? Amount conditions compare numbers in the customer's checkout currency without conversion. See Cart conditions: subtotal, total, quantity, currency.
  7. Does Rule input offer the condition you need? For example, Shipping input does not offer shipping address fields, and Cart attribute needs Attribute input. Rule input is locked after creation. See Shipping address conditions: country, province, city, ZIP, address line and Cart attributes and line item attributes.
  8. Is your subscription active? When billing stops, BlockCart removes synced validations from Shopify. Check your rules after resubscribing. See What happens to your rules when you cancel or billing stops.
  9. Are you testing the right store? Run the test checkout on the store where you created the rule. See Create your first checkout rule.
